Considering therapy is itself a meaningful step, and reaching out often reflects both courage and readiness for change.

Lorrie works with adolescents and adults to deepen self-understanding, strengthen resilience, and support sustainable personal growth. Therapy provides a confidential and supportive space to reflect, explore concerns, and develop new ways of responding to life’s challenges.

Individual therapy may be helpful for a wide range of concerns, including:

  • Depression, stress, and anxiety
  • Life transitions and adjustment challenges
  • Interpersonal and relationship difficulties
  • Anger management
  • Grief and loss
  • Trauma, including sexual, emotional, and physical abuse
  • Sleep difficulties, chronic pain, and health-related concerns
  • Problematic substance use or addiction
  • Self-esteem, personal development, and life skills
  • Spirituality and questions of meaning and purpose

Lorrie’s approach is collaborative and individualized, integrating traditional psychotherapy with the science of well-being. Couples and Relationship Counselling

Couples and Relationship Counselling

Relationships are central to our well-being. They can be a profound source of connection, meaning, and support, and at times a source of strain, misunderstanding, or pain. Couples and relationship counselling offers a structured and supportive space to explore patterns of interaction, improve communication, repair ruptures, and strengthen emotional connection and intimacy.

Lorrie works with couples at many stages of their relationship, including those seeking premarital counselling, partners experiencing conflict or disconnection, and couples navigating periods of transition or uncertainty. The goal is not only to address immediate concerns but to foster deeper understanding and more resilient ways of relating.

Common areas of focus include:

  • Communication difficulties and recurring conflict
  • Repairing ruptures in trust, including recovery from affairs
  • Parenting challenges and co-parenting concerns
  • Blended family integration
  • Infertility and reproductive challenges
  • Recognizing and changing family-of-origin patterns that repeat in adult relationships
  • Strengthening intimacy, connection, and emotional safety

Her approach integrates attachment-based, relational, and strengths-focused
perspectives. Couples are supported in understanding one another more clearly,
building empathy, and developing healthier patterns of interaction that promote
growth, resilience, and long-term connection.

Collaborative Coaching

Collaborative Coaching

Collaborative coaching is a structured, goal-oriented process designed to support individuals or couples navigating significant life transitions, including separation and divorce, within the Collaborative Law framework.

Collaborative Law offers an alternative to traditional litigation by bringing together
collaboratively trained professionals, including lawyers, financial specialists, and coaches, to help participants work respectfully and cooperatively toward mutually acceptable agreements. The process emphasizes open communication, shared decision-making, and solutions that reflect the priorities and well-being of all involved.

Collaborative coaching is distinct from psychotherapy. It focuses on emotional
regulation, practical communication, and effective decision-making during periods of transition. Clients are supported in staying grounded in their values, managing strong emotions, and engaging constructively in legal, financial, and family discussions.

Lorrie’s clinical background brings depth and steadiness to this work. Drawing on her expertise in human behaviour, resilience, and relational dynamics, she supports clients in navigating the emotional and interpersonal challenges that often accompany separation and divorce. Working alongside legal and financial professionals, she helps clients maintain clarity, communicate effectively, and move toward respectful and sustainable outcomes.

Family Therapy

Family Therapy

Families are complex systems shaped by history, roles, communication patterns, and shared experiences. When strain develops within a family, it can affect every member in different ways. Family therapy provides a structured and supportive space to better understand these dynamics and to work toward healthier patterns of connection.

Family therapy may be helpful when families are experiencing ongoing conflict, communication breakdowns, parenting challenges, blended family adjustments, adolescent concerns, or periods of significant transition. It can also support families navigating the impact of illness, loss, separation, or other life changes.

Family therapy does not focus on assigning blame but on increasing understanding, strengthening communication, and fostering greater emotional safety within the family system. By exploring patterns of interaction and clarifying roles and expectations, families can develop more constructive ways of relating and
responding to one another.

Lorrie’s approach integrates relational, attachment-informed, and strengths-based perspectives. The work is collaborative and paced thoughtfully to ensure that all voices are heard and respected.

Client Reflections

Individual, relationship, and couple counselling.

Reconnected & Stronger

"Lorrie has been a key part of the rebuilding of our relationship. She gave us the tools to allow us to better communicate. Every session has been full of insights and in a relaxed and comfortable environment for both of us. There was no taking of sides just open and honest communication. It's been over a year since we have had a couple's session, and we are still using the ideas and techniques to enable us to communicate effectively. Our relationship is in the best shape it has ever been. I would suggest all couples explore this type of counseling prior to a long-term commitment or marriage as it would prevent much hardship and pain."

From grief to grounded

"Lorrie Peniston is a therapist I wholeheartedly recommend. I once believed I could handle everything on my own, but working with her showed me that therapy is about having skilled, professional support - not a lack of strength. I found her during a time of grief, and she has been consistently kind, compassionate, and professional. I always leave her office feeling lighter and more grounded."

Authentic Self Growth

"Lorrie’s nonjudgmental and compassionate presence makes it easy to open up in sessions. Every emotion is met with warmth, groundedness, and a gentle touch of humor. I sought therapy during a time of transition, and Lorrie helped ground me in my core self while bringing awareness to familial and societal roles I’ve adopted that no longer serve me. She offers insight and practical tools, and thoughtfully challenges my (at times harmful) automatic thoughts with grace. Through our work together, I’ve gained a deeper awareness of myself and how I show up in relationships, and I’m learning to communicate more honestly and directly."

Clarity Through Complexity

"Lorrie has been both a steady guide and a mirror at key points in my personal and professional life. She brings a rare mix of warmth, clarity, and clinical depth - holding space in a way that feels safe but never soft. She has challenged me when I needed it, helped me reframe when I couldn’t see my way forward, and reminded me of my own agency without ever pushing.  What she offers isn’t formulaic. It’s deeply human and quietly transformative. Even outside of a traditional clinical setting, her ability to read a room, name the thing under the thing, and help people re-center is a gift. I’ve worked with many skilled professionals over the years, but Lorrie stands apart."
